Turk Launches has confirmed its participation in the Queen’s Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on Sunday 3rd June. New Southern Belle, a Mississippi style paddle steamer, and Yarmouth Belle, a traditional English side wheeler built in 1892, have both been privately hired to take part in the pageant, which will see a thousand boats gather on the River Thames. Read more...

Turk Launches has been placed 4th by thebestof.co.uk's best-loved businesses in Richmond. The Kingston and Richmond Informer (Businesses that are public's cup of tea, Rupert Basham, 25th February 2011) reports that the website asked residents to vote for their favourite companies and votes were counted on the number of testimonials left by customers on the website.
Some of the scenes filmed for the Sherlock Holmes movie were filmed on two of Turk Launches vessels, Jeff and Verity. The Verity has since been sold by Turks in an auction in 2010 but the Jeff is still in operation, most used for the ferry service from Hampton Court train station to the Hampton Court Flower Show Entrance during the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show. Some of the filming was also done in Chatham Dockyard, Kent, where Turk Shipyard operates, pictures of which are below.

The New Southern Belle was recently used in filming at Broom House, Teddington for the BBC television series New Tricks, which stars Dennis Waterman, Amanda Redman, James Bolam and Alun Armstrong. The episode will air in 2011.

An online auction of more than 200 boats used in major films and stored in Kent is taking place. The boats, which have featured in films over the past 60 years, were sold by Thames boat builders, Turks, who stored the vessels in Chatham. Read more...
