The party criteria: A different kind of birthday party venue near Kingston upon Thames that would be something different and as good for children as it would be for adults. Here’s Mark’s story:
It was my wife’s 30th. birthday and we wanted to celebrate by doing something different. We wanted our guests to enjoy a different experience – something they hadn’t tried before. What we didn’t want was to hire a typical area in a bar or hotel.
Living near Kingston upon Thames, we have the luxury of being near the river, so we explored the idea of a boat party.
We had experienced the Turks boat trip and decided to look at their private hire options as it is such a scenic route that they take.
For a party venue, their piers are well placed to get to from public transport – the Kingston upon Thames pier worked out to be convenient for our guests that didn’t live so local to us.
We had also just had our first baby and wanted children to be part of our party (in total we had 15 children coming along from babies to 12 years old!) – so safety and a sense of adventure to help keep them entertained was also part of our remit.
The first boat we looked at was the New Southern Belle – and it was the perfect sized space as we would have around 100 guests.
From the moment our friends and family stepped on board, the party got started. The New Southern Belle is an impressive looking boat so you could sense peoples excitement as they approached the pier. It was a beautiful late spring evening so most people stayed on the outside deck for the first hour just drinking, mingling and taking in the views.
The DJ was brilliant and before long everyone was up on the dancefloor – where they stayed till the end! Most of the kids stayed downstairs – it was such a safe environment for them meaning parents could relax. You had no concerns about them running off – or going overboard!
The Turks staff were outstanding – they couldn’t do enough for you, were excellent with all the kids and very quick to serve at the bar. My 2 year old nephew was fascinated by the boat and the Captain let him sit with him which he loved. It is the little touches like that, that make a party extra memorable.
The whole night flew by and everyone raved about it – in fact we haven’t had comments like that since our wedding!
It was well worth the money in all respects. The bar prices are really good in comparison to a hotel, and it’s the fact that you have your own exclusive party venue, rather than ‘a space.’
It was just a perfect night and I would highly recommend anyone planning a party to try it.
